Furthermore, I want to share some suggestions for a Tuvar Totha Recipe. Firstly, use green garlic and ginger in a huge proportion for best taste in totha. If you take 1 bowl of tuvar lentils then take 2 bowls of chopped green garlic. And use ginger and green chilli ¼ bowl. And it’s a secret tip for totha recipe. Secondly, add tomato gravy instead of chopped tomato. Additionally, if you want thick and more gravy then add boiled crushed tuvar and water as required as per thickness. Ingredients
For Tuvar Totha Recipe
- 150 gram Dry tuvar dal / lentils Soaked and Boiled
- 300 gram Green garlic chopped
- ½ cup Green chilli and ginger paste
- ½ cup Coriander leaves chopped
- 5 big tbsp Oil
- 2 medium tomato gravy
- ½ inch jaggery / gud
- 1½ tbsp Red chilli powder
- ½ tbsp turmeric powder
- 1 tbsp Coriander powder
- ½ tbsp Garam masala powder
- Salt as per taste
- Water as required
For Serving
- Bread
- Jalebi
- Buttermilk
- Sev
Instructions
- Firstly, take a kadai and add oil.
- Secondly, add green garlic and saute on low flame for 4 minutes till it starts aromatic or oil start separated from the pan.
- Then add ginger and green chilli paste and saute for 2 minutes.
- Now add tomato gravy and jaggery. And cook till gud mixed up well and oil separated from the pan.
- Furthermore, add red chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder and salt. Mix it well.
- When all dry masala cooked then add boiled tuvar dal and water as required. Mix it gently and cover with a lid and cook for 10 minutes on low flame.
- Then add garam masala powder and mix gently as boiled tuvar don’t break. Now simmer for 2 minutes or oil start separating.
- Finally, your Gujarati Tuvar Totha is ready to serve with Jalebi, Bread, Sev and Buttermilk.

7. Then add garam masala powder and mix gently as boiled tuvar don’t break. Now simmer for 2 minutes or oil start separating.
8. Finally, your Gujarati Tuvar Totha is ready to serve with Jalebi, Bread, Sev and Buttermilk.
Tips to Making Tuvar Totha Recipe
- Firstly, soak Dry Tuvar dal or lentils for at least 6-7 hours or overnight. Then add water and salt and cook for 4-5 whistles on low to medium flame.
- Then use green garlic and ginger of huge proportion for better taste. If you take 1 bowl of tuvar lentils then take 2 bowls of chopped green garlic. And use ginger and green chilli ¼ bowl.
- Adding jaggery is totally optional.
- Furthermore, use tomato gravy instead of chopped tomato.
- Additionally, you can add crushed boiled tuvar dal for thick consistency of gravy in totha recipe.
- Add water as per your requirement of consistency of gravy.
- Lastly, serve with bread or bajri no rotlo or roti, jalebi and buttermilk. And also sprinkle some gram sev for crunchiness.
